Find gaps and duplicate numbers in filename sequences
Sequence Repair is for file sets that should follow a numbered pattern such as image-001.jpg, image-002.jpg, image-004.jpg. It surfaces gaps and repeated sequence numbers, then previews a contiguous renumbering plan.
Why sequence detection is cautious
TaskThimble only treats the last numeric token in a filename stem as a sequence candidate and groups matching prefix and suffix patterns. If several sequence groups exist, you choose the one to work on explicitly rather than letting the tool guess.
Preview the mapping before creating anything
The proposed old-to-new filename map lets you check ordering, padding and sequence continuity before output files are generated. This matters when numbers carry business or editorial meaning.
Repair creates copies
The tool never renames source files in place. When you create repaired copies, those copies can become the current local file set while the originals remain unchanged and recoverable in local history.
Do not renumber identifiers just because they look sequential
SKUs, invoice numbers, contractual references or externally assigned identifiers may contain numbers that must not be rewritten. Use Sequence Repair only when the numeric token genuinely represents file ordering.
