Group filenames that look like competing versions
Use Version Confusion Resolver when a folder contains files such as report-final.pdf, report-final-2.pdf, report-v3.pdf or report-copy.pdf and it is no longer obvious which files belong to the same version family.
Filename evidence only
The resolver looks for common cues such as final, draft, copy, v3 and rev2. It groups likely families to reduce review effort but does not decide which file should survive.
Modification date is not authority
A newer timestamp can help orient review, but copied, restored, downloaded or synchronised files can have misleading dates. Confirm the real source of truth before deleting or replacing anything.
Similar names can still contain materially different content
Filename grouping cannot prove that two files are equivalent. Open or compare the underlying files when a version decision has consequences.
Resolve the family before cleanup
Once the authoritative version is confirmed, use the result to guide deliberate cleanup or renaming. TaskThimble itself does not delete competing versions automatically.
